Weight-loss supplements are a multi billion dollar industry with hundreds of products on the market. Although these products claim to be fat blockers, appetite suppressants or body-composition changers there are some questions that need to be answered. How many of these products actually do what they claim and is there any long term health risks associated to these products?
Thankfully, there has been numerous studies conducted where many of these products have been randomly scrutinized in clinical studies to prove or disprove their effectiveness. To date there are only a few products that resulted in a modest proven results to their claims.
One key factor I wish to state is there is no magic pill, powder or drink concoction that is going to shed unwanted fat unless people incorporate a three-tiered approach to their weight loss journey. That involves eating healthy, maintaining an active lifestyle, and getting enough rest.
So, why would you consider my review of products in comparison to other people? My background consists of being a certified Research Analyst, a previous national level athlete, bodybuilder, martial artist, personal trainer, blogger and videographer with my niche being on the subject matters of health/fitness/nutrition.
Whenever I conduct research on a certain product I maintain a certain protocol whereupon I will personally test the product, examine the company’s claims, review studies conducted by accredited non-affiliated research institutions, and customer reviews. Once I have compiled all the data I will create a non-biased review and share it in a written and video format.
Now, instead of boring you with detailed descriptions of the active ingredients of Hydroxycut, which you can view from other blogs and videos, I will focus on the history, company’s claims, pros and cons, my personal experience using the products and customer reviews.
History:
Hydroxycut was originally created as a dietary supplement that is marketed as a weight-loss product. Now, one key thing I wish to address, which is definitely an “Elephant in the room,” is something that happened to Hydroxycut after it was originally developed and manufactured by Muscle Tech Research and Development. In 2005, Muscle Tech had just sold their brand to Lovate Health Sciences and then declared bankruptcy. One of the original formulas of Hydroxycut was ephedra and caffeine. There were reported side effects due to this combination that reportedly caused seizures and other serious side effects. This resulted in numerous lawsuits against Muscle Tech. However, after a recall of Hydroxycut occurred in 2009, Lovate Health Sciences reformulated the product with the removal of ephedra and maintained caffeine as one of the main ingredients. Subsequently, three studies have supported the safety and effectiveness for weight loss due to in part, an ingredient, Cissus quadrangularis, in the reformulated Hydroxycut products.
Company’s Claims:
Designed for hardcore weight loss; Delivers extreme energy and maximum intensity; Contains scientifically researched key weight loss ingredient; Two separate scientific studies support the key ingredient (canephora robusta) with an average weight loss of 10.95 lbs in 60 days with a low-calorie diet in the first study, and 3.7 lbs in 8 weeks with a calorie-reduced diet and moderate exercise in the second study; Hydroxycut Hardcore also contains another powerful ingredient (caffeine anhydrous) that’s been shown to deliver a boost of energy.
Pros And Cons:
Caffeine appears to be one of the potent ingredients in Hydroxycut. Caffeine is a stimulant, which increases activity in our brain and nervous system. It increases the circulation of cortisol and adrenaline, which can slightly boost weight-loss efforts or help prevent weight gain, but there's no solid evidence that caffeine consumption leads to noticeable weight loss. Hydroxycut claims their caffeine amount and other active components have been found to increase metabolism in rats and decrease weight gain in chickens.
Hydroxycut claims their key herbal compounds were found to cause weight loss of 21 pounds (9.5 kg) in just 12 weeks in one research study.
Although no trials have been conducted to directly test Hydroxycut Hardcore, the active components have demonstrated some promise as a weight reduction aid.
Historically, Hydroxycut has been linked to a number of serious adverse effects. However, as I noted in the history section, the majority of those serious adverse effects were caused by previous versions and are not noted in the reformulated ingredients.
Hydroxycut's current formulation has a variety of potential negative effects, the majority of them are related to the caffeine. Noted in some of the customers reviews were such side effects such as insomnia, jitteriness, anxiety, nausea, diarrhea, and other symptoms.
Because it contains more caffeine, Hydroxycut Hardcore may be even more harmful in this aspect. As a result, caffeine-sensitive individuals should avoid Hydroxycut or use the caffeine-free version instead.
The larger the dosage of Hydroxycut, may cause some people to experience some adverse side effects. With that in mind people should gradually increase their dosage, starting with 1 pill 3 times per day and gradually increase to 2 tablets 3 times per day after four days.
However, keep in mind that dosage recommendations varies depending on the Hydroxycut product. As a result, it would be wise to follow the instructions carefully and don't go overboard. You may develop a tolerance to some of the substances in Hydroxycut like caffeine. Therefore, you may get better results by cycling the product, such as taking Hydroxycut for 4 weeks and then take 4 weeks off.
Customer Reviews:
Some common positive experiences included an increased sense of energy and metabolic rate, fat reduction, drastic weight loss, curb appetite, felt no side effects, easy to swallow sized pills, and increased workout intensity.
Some common concerns included feeling itchy, pins and needles from head to toe, light headed, insomnia, nervousness, hives, stomach aches, nauseated, motion sickness, and some serious concerns relating to possible liver damage.
Personal Experience:
I fall within the middle of the pros and cons. I had a burst of energy but crashed within a couple of hours. I felt the pins and needles but that didn’t bother me too much. My workouts were more intense but my sleep suffered. I did experience some stomach discomfort, especially after eating.
In Conclusion:
Everyone is slightly different with their reaction to any weight-loss supplement and results will vary. At the end of the day, Hydroxycut may be useful as a fat burning aid in the short term, as long as a person incorporates a healthy lifestyle that includes eating healthy, exercising and proper rest. With any weight-loss strategy, long-term results won’t occur without maintaining a healthy lifestyle. For those who are attempting to lose weight, please remember it’s a marathon, not a race, and there are no shortcuts.
On a personal note. Having tested many dietary supplements during my competitive years I have had varying results. Knowing how it can be a virtual “minefield” when attempting to choose the right dietary supplement from the hundreds of products on the market, I am hoping to shed some light on products that may be beneficial in your weight-loss journey. My opinion is solely based on my own experiences and results can vary depending on the individual.
Of all the dietary supplements I have used, in my humble opinion, a product called Java Burn is the “best of both worlds”. Java Burn has some key ingredients, which factor into resolving issues that arise from excessive weight gain, fat accumulation, and a slower metabolic rate. One deciding factor for me is my love of coffee and Java Burn doubles as the perfect coffee additive. Java Burn has synergistic activity with coffee, which results in amping up our metabolism without the side effects that infused high amounts of caffeine can cause. I don’t experience any extreme highs and lows or jitters when taking Java Burn. Amazingly, I maintained an equilibrium and cognitive function throughout the entire day.
With any dietary supplementation I encourage you to due your due diligence in your research and testing. Most importantly, keep in mind dietary supplements aren’t regulated as strictly as in the case of pharmaceutical drugs. Therefore, it’s important to speak with a medical professional before starting any new supplementation, so you can make the right decision that’s best for your overall health and longevity.
